Hello @2thames, welcome to Connect. Have you heard of Mayo Clinic's Concierge Services? It is a free service that can help patients find lodging, where to eat, and other things to do around Rochester, Minnesota while they are here for an appointment(s). You can find out more information following this link, https://www.mayoclinic.org/patient-visitor-guide/minnesota/becoming-a-patient/concierge-travel-services.
@2thames, are you enrolled in the pain clinic? Will you be traveling to Rochester for the pain clinic?
@2thames I’m guessing you’ve probably already gone through the program since this was posted a while ago. I went through the program ages ago (10+ years). I stayed at quality inn & suites during my stay. The price was reasonable and they have mini suites with separate bedroom/living areas which is so nice for days when I felt sick. I could lay in bed but my mother could be in the living room or Kitchette and not disturb me. I’d also recommend contacting your insurance company. I’m currently here at the Mayo for treatment and my insurance (United healthcare community plan) is covering my hotel. However during my previous trips I was with blue cross blue shield, they didn’t cover anything.
Hi I was wondering I just saw that this a pain program at the Mayo Clinic I didn't know if it's different from a pain clinic but how do I get involved in this idea what the billeting pain from CRPS and I'm really struggling if somebody could please let me know how I would try to get involved in the Mayo Clinic pain program that would be great thank you so much Melissa
I would also love to know more - I am working on getting an appointment with the spine program but still gathering my med records.
@bikerchicl, I visit Mayo in Rochester MN every year. A couple years ago Mayo suggested I go through their pain management program. You do have to stay in town during this time.
Before committing to this program, check with your insurance company. Mine, Blue Cross, would not pay for this. Needless to say I wasn’t able to afford to go through this program so I can’t comment on it at all.
As I said, I visit Rochester routinely, every 3 months. I’ve been watching new buildings going up across the street from St Marys hospital where the pain management program is at. Somebody at the hospital told me that these buildings were for lodging for patients in this program. You should call and inquire about this if MN is your destination.
Wishing you the best, hope you can find answers.
Is the pain management program only in MN? Is it available in AZ? And do u know if Medicare would cover it?
@typeguy1 I live in MN. Mayo suggested the pain program for me. Medicare said they will not cover it. That was a couple of years ago, so maybe guidelines have changed. You should call Medicare and ask. I would suggest first calling Mayo and getting the medical code for the program that is used in submitting insurance claims. That will help when you call Medicare. Do you have a supplemental insurance as well? Generally insurance companies follow Medicare guidelines so they might not cover the program either. Good luck to you.
My Medicare/Medicaid coverage wouldn’t cover the program when I went through it (this was 10+ years ago). I ended up paying for it out of pocket. There are some financial assistance programs that you may be able to apply for through the Mayo Clinic and Saint Mary’s Hospital that could help though.
