Does anyone have any experience or information on PRP shots vs cortisone shots to prolong hip replacements? I've been having pain in my right hip for quite awhile but it's only at night due to being a side sleeper. I sent my knee replacement surgeon's PA a message on the patient portal and asked if they thought it might help. I've an appointment Monday for an X-ray of my hips and a consult with their non-surgical team to discuss conservative measures for the hip pain Dec 21st.

Hello John,
I can only comment on PRP injections, injected into my knees, best thing l did was a big stab in unknown but well paid off. Gave me extra 7 yrs, had my first TKR June this year. I had 15 injections 7 in L 8 in Right knee. Pain free CT guided rested afterwards worked next day Nursing. Hoping this is some help. Injections definitely helped me.

Hi John - I was faced with the same issue last winter, and my hip surgeon, whom I trust, diagnosed bursitis & sciatic irritation. We decided to try exercise & ice first - fortunately it works - as long as I continue daily stretching as directed. I can sleep on my left hip now - just wish my left shoulder would cooperate - 2 months of therapy & it is only marginally improved. He said if pain continued he would use cortisone. In his opinion, there is not enough evidence for PRP after healing yet. He says some of his partners do use it in the healing phase, especially if pain persists.
