Has anyone had a tight band feeling after total knee replacement?

I've had so much done now. I have cancer and if I wast taking hydrocodone I wouldn't to be able to function with my knee. I've had injections, meds, and now a nerve reading process.

I had a TKR 17 months ago in my right leg. I am also experiencing excessive swelling and the band feeling in that leg. I work on my feet 40 hours a week ( not close to retirement) and they said could take a year for swelling to go away. I went back after a year and was immediately sent to a vascular doctor who did a procedure for leaky veins but did not take away swelling. Now back to the orthopedic and vascular is suggesting MRI to look for fluid, soft tissue or muscle damage. When I had my knee replacement I had to be given nerve blockers because I had back surgery. Since then the pins and needles feeling hasn’t gone completely away on the outer right side and have band feeling with swelling above right knee. Was wondering if anyone else had nerve blockers instead of epidural? Is this maybe what has contributed to the band feeling and swelling? Still have to have other knee done but until I have an answer I will not be getting it done. Very disappointing because they made it seem like as long as you did therapy and got range of motion back which Mine is 125 (even with swelling) you would have a normal pain free knee. Yeah not so much. I have to wear thigh high compression stocking while working still and no real answers yet 🤞they will learn something with MRI.

My MRI didnt show anything to help on tight ban feeling. I still think it has to do with the ligaments. They have looked into everything else. I've called 15 times as I dont lift my knee high enough when I feel the pain

I've had the same thing on my right knee. I've had 4 years of the pain. The more I walk the tighter the bad feels and cause me to limp. I've had everything you can think of done to my knee with little or no results cant go to the surgeon as if it move back and forth its works. 15% to 20% of knee replacements are pro lems. The PA's forcthe surgeon works on these.
I still feel it has to do with the ligaments. They have deaden nerves and it still doesnt help. Working with a pain Center and my PA.

Update on my knee: the doctor at Mayo basically told me I had to wait a year post surgery before any more tests would be done. My pain has tortured me for almost ten months. I went to another surgeon who ordered a radio active bone scan. The results were clear: a mechanical failure with the prostheses. The implant actually is loose and has caused stress fractures to my tibia. I’m now scheduled to have revision surgery and start all over. 😥

I am so sorry to hear of your troubles here and for needing revision surgery. Hopefully the surgeon doing the revision can give you some explanation of what caused this problem to begin with. I had mentioned this in an earlier post but I have heard of people having loosening issues etc due to a metal allergy reacting with the device components, such as Nickel. As I said in my earlier post this is a controversial topic but I think there is evidence enough to consider this as a possibility to be considered when devices fail. I have very severe nickel allergies and I searched out and traveled to a surgeon at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York (Westrich) who is very experienced with allergic issues and revision surgeries. For allergic individuals he uses a ceramic implant----my is oxinium. They actually have a longer lifespan than some of the metal ones. It is believed by some that metal allergy is one of the possibilities causing poor response with loosening of the device. Just felt compelled to mention it. My heart goes out to you and I wish you a great outcome. Will be thinking of you.

I've had metal tests, x-rays, MRI's, I dont know what else. I'm wondering if it ligament problem. Starting riding the bike again , lasted 5 minutes. It tighten up so bad I'm limping bad again 4 years of this. I have non-hoskins lymphoma Mantle cell cancer and have 2 infusions every 6 weeks. Was hoping that my knee would feel better so I can go for walks and excercise. Not so lucky.

@danielcwest I am sorry for what you have been going through. That’s excellent that you were able to find a surgeon who diagnosed the problem and is going to fix it. I’m sure you’re not looking forward to another surgery but it will be such a relief for you when it’s better.

nickel allergy might be it. I am very allergic. I will check that out when up at Mayo in a few weeks. So very sorry you are having to have a revision surgery

Did that tight band feeling ever go away? I am a year post TKR and still have a similar feeling which is not painful but is VERY annoying!
