Knee replacement with post traumatic osteoarthritis
I have a knee that needs replacement but also do to a severe accident I have a titanium rod from hip to knee. I was given a cortisone injection into the knee capsule and can not have surgery for 3 mos I have been told. I have extreme pain at times in the knee and need to know how to immobilize the knee so I can survive till surgery. I have a farm and must do the work there is no one else. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

@rtbadleg it sounds as if that may have been the only appropriate injection for your condition.
I wish we could help with suggestions but as I said before, your case is unique.

I am just glad to hear about other people and their journey to be able to have great outcomes from surgery and injections. I see the surgeon again on March 28 and with all of your help I am just better informed. I so appreciate everyone sharing their story and suggestions it’s wonderful!
Probably a silly question but how bad does the cortisone shot hurt? I just had my right knee replaced on 1-23-2019 and am having a slow recovery. I know I'll probably have to get Cortisone shots for the left knee ( once the surgeon approves) because I'm using all of my PT this year for my right knee (outpatient, I get 30 sessions) My friend says they hurt for a minute which beats months of post op pain but I just wanted to hear the pain level from someone else!
I didn't think it really hurt at all but it may have been the skill of the person doing the shot ☺
I got cortisone shots in my knee every four months for 2+ years before having a TKR. They really didn’t hurt much at all. However my sister-in-law said hers were painful.
I know it hurts “a little” but a minute of pain looks alot more appealing than the months of pain from a knee replacement. Lol
@dkapustin I have had many cortisone shots, both knees, and both hips, from many different doctors. I did also have Synvisc shots for my knees and those did hurt a bit, briefly. For me though, they helped enough to definitely be worth it. They tend to do Synvisc when the cortisone no longer helps much.
If you do find yourself getting Synvisc at some point, I personally prefer the three weekly shots over the one shot. I know a few other people who have found that to help more also.

Good to know, thank you!
