@dkapustin

Probably a silly question but how bad does the cortisone shot hurt? I just had my right knee replaced on 1-23-2019 and am having a slow recovery. I know I'll probably have to get Cortisone shots for the left knee ( once the surgeon approves) because I'm using all of my PT this year for my right knee (outpatient, I get 30 sessions) My friend says they hurt for a minute which beats months of post op pain but I just wanted to hear the pain level from someone else!

I didn't think it really hurt at all but it may have been the skill of the person doing the shot ☺

I got cortisone shots in my knee every four months for 2+ years before having a TKR. They really didn’t hurt much at all. However my sister-in-law said hers were painful.

@dkapustin I have had many cortisone shots, both knees, and both hips, from many different doctors. I did also have Synvisc shots for my knees and those did hurt a bit, briefly. For me though, they helped enough to definitely be worth it. They tend to do Synvisc when the cortisone no longer helps much.
If you do find yourself getting Synvisc at some point, I personally prefer the three weekly shots over the one shot. I know a few other people who have found that to help more also.
