@racing212 @rosemarya I of course did have HE episodes but I was told that monitoring ammonia levels was not very useful. Some people can get HE with lower levels, and some people with higher levels do not get them! Also, they change quickly so if you are monitored it only predicts for that day basically. My PCP wanted to monitor them but the hepatologist said it was not a very accurate predictor. I felt it was for me, but again, things can change and unless you are monitoring daily then it doesn't make a lot of sense.

@racing212, I read that you are a patient at Mayo Rochester. It's a good place! That is where I received my transplant, (simultaneous liver and kidney in 2009). I was actually flown there from ICU in Kentucky, and lived in Rochester with my husband at the Gift of Life House from late Feb. 2009 - until after my transplant and recovery on mid May 2009. If haven't checked out the Gift of Life Transplant House, I highly suggest that you do so.
