Hello @jadillow, you may notice I combined you new discussion with your old one on the same topic of chest pain. I did this so the members who have participated on this topic would see your messages and have a better chance of seeing your messages. I am tagging @bozoian and @beahind who have posted about costochondritis on Connect in the past. I also recommend reading some of @dawn_giacabazi's posts as well as she has frequently talked about her issues with costochondritis.

Thank you

@jadillow
I have read most of your other posts and have been pondering a response. Based solely on my experience and struggles with coscochondritis Mild may disappear after a few days. Chronic cases can last for weeks or more, but most cases don't last any longer than a year. Mine was caused by a paired over fracture through my Sternal manubrium joint. The pain was excruciating and every time it would take a breath the stabbing pain would pierce through me. Every breath would cause the chest wall to rise and fall and chip away bone and cartilage. I had swelling the size of a baseball over the site. Every time I would try to lay down the fracture would separate. This constant motion is what cause the costal chondral chondrites. One of my physicians at Mayo Clinic would do Fluoroscopy guided injections to the sterno manubrium joint to get me some relief. But let me say that was an extreme treatment only used at that time on the extreme case and was not done very often. The procedure comes with high risk. The pain treatment center where I live was the first ones to do it. But they hit the lining of my lung and because a very serious situation quickly!!
That’s when I was sent to Mayo Clinic for the first time. I had CT scans, Bone scans and MRI before the diagnosis was confirmed. That was over 15 years ago. After 3 years of failed treatments I ended up (3 surgeries later) they successfully removed my sternal manubrium joint and a moderate amount of my sternum & over 100 bone fragments out of my breasts. My 2, 3, 4, 5 ribs are not attached to anything in the front of my chest. Treatment options may be different now.
What kind of tests have you had done in regards to chest wall? MRI, Bone scan, CT?? If the Bone scan would show any activity in the isotopes it could confirm the diagnosis? But I am not sure about your other issues so they could be unrelated? I would consider Mayo Clinic for a second opinion.

Thanks
Dawn
