@margot. A surgery? Seriously, how did you get through it? As for the puppy, right now my husband is dealing with her as he is a commercial fisherman and works seasonally. The main thing I am worried about is what will happen when he goes to Alaska in June...I will be at work and the dog will be alone from about 8:00-3:00. Is that too long to leave a dog in a crate? I have a stepson who can come home at lunch to take her out, but am worried about how this is going to work.

@alanism- Welcome to Mayo Connect. Maybe your husband can take him?

Yes, hysterectomy and bladder suspension. I wanted my doctors there, that I knew and trusted, to do the surgery. No lifting for weeks! My husband's transfer went through. Moved him and my kid's to my Mom's house and got them situated in school. I had my husband take a bunch of boxes upstairs in the condo. I had to go back and pack. I packed the boxes and shoved them down the stairs with my foot! LOL! Oh, and two of my cousins from back East decided to visit. Asked my doctor what was the recovery time after this and he said a minimum of 6 weeks but often takes 3 months! I told him I didn't have 3 months! He was having a fit but not offering to come help me pack! Hell, I don't know how we did it.
Did you happen to think this out before you got the puppy? How old is it now and what breed? That is kind of long to leave a dog in a crate and I hope you are crate training now. I am an advocate of crate training. How is your house set up? Have a fenced yard?
