Anyone taking adjuvant bisphosphonates for bone health?

Posted by tessfair1 @tessfair1, Jan 26, 2019

Hi. I’m Stage 3 breast cancer post bilateral mastectomy, chemo, radiation. Currently on Anastrozole. Doctor is recommending adding adjuvant bisphosphonates. I’m overwhelmed and less than a year out from diagnosis and surgery. I have an 8 year old so need to do everything possible to extend my survival but also want to have the best quality of life possible. Anyone out there who is not metastatic and doing this added therapy as prevention? Anyone (Mets or not) doing this therapy and have any feedback about it? This is all too much!

Hi Tessfair!
I so understand your situation. I am sending you positive energy and a calm moment. I have metastatic BC.

I had my first biosphosphonate infusion in late November. I have been on letrozole for 10 months. I had a bilateral mastectomy and 6 weeks of proton beam. I was terrified for some reason. Especially since all the other treatments were faced squarely. The infusion was a breeze. It took only 15 minutes.
I have had absolutely no side effects. I am planning on it working wonders and adding quality and quantity to my life.
Have faith that you will make the right decision.

I started Zometa shortly after my bilateral mastectomy and radiation were complete to minimize possible recurrence in bones. Infustions were every six months for three years, then off for a year and am now back on it for osteoporosis. Happy to report that I have not had any side effects.

I had breast cancer last year. I too am on Anastrozole. I am having my first Zometa infusion tomorrow. Praying all goes well.

support4me @support4me, I hope everything goes well for you today, and no side effects. Keep us posted. Give yourself some kind of treat after your injection. (ice cream sundae?)
