My gastroenterologist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester told me to take one FDgard capsule twice a day. (its over the counter, and I order it on Amazon) It is for functional dyspepsia. He also prescribed a antidepressant, but it gave me horrible headaches so I had to stop taking them. I lost about 30 # last year, and I see a therapist and take other antipressants . I don't think they help my stomach. You could try FDgard.

FDgard calls it a medical food. it's a supplement with individually triple-coated microspheres of caraway oil and I-menthol. The directions on the box say to take 2 capsules in a.m. and 2 in p.m. I take only 1 twice a day - maybe it would help more to take 2 twice a day. Their web site is https://fdgard.com/

From the articles it does appear that there can be many causes for this problem and that antidepressants can be used to treat this. If you are comfortable sharing more, could you explain what tests you had to rule out other disorders before the diagnosis was made and what was your main symptom? Also, how long ago were you diagnosed with functional dyspepsia"
How are each of you doing with your current treatments?
@jillannw, you mentioned that you are taking mirtazapine. Is that working well for you? @vickylou, how is the FDgard working for you?
Will you each post an update and let me know how you are doing?

After reading your post I ordered some FDgard from Amazon. I just started taking it (two tablets a day) so it is too soon to tell how it is working, but anything is worth a try.

I started taking FDguard 4 days ago, 2 caplets in a.m. 2 caplets before bed. It has helped immensely. I still take gas x twice a day and I was given Celexa for Anxiety. I am looking into some natural hemp oil, which is totally legal in all states, that relieves stress. Amozon sells it. You have to research the best brand. Does anyone ever wonder if Drs or those doing studies have actually ever suffered from some of these conditions. Anything is worth a try.

Hello @vickylou and @lvon and @jillannw
I would like to welcome you all to Mayo Connect and this discussion on functional dyspepsia (FD). As I was not familiar with this disorder, I did a google search and I found a link which describes FD. Just click on the link to read the entire article, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5768602/. Here is another link to a Mayo website that also discusses it, https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/nonulcer-stomach-pain/symptoms-causes/syc-20375709

The mirtazapine helped but I am still not well.
How many days does or did it take for it to show some improvement? And did you also take a acid reducer with it ?

What were your symptoms of functional dyspepsia?
