My gastroenterologist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester told me to take one FDgard capsule twice a day. (its over the counter, and I order it on Amazon) It is for functional dyspepsia. He also prescribed a antidepressant, but it gave me horrible headaches so I had to stop taking them. I lost about 30 # last year, and I see a therapist and take other antipressants . I don't think they help my stomach. You could try FDgard.

What is it?

Hello @vickylou and @lvon and @jillannw

I would like to welcome you all to Mayo Connect and this discussion on functional dyspepsia (FD). As I was not familiar with this disorder, I did a google search and I found a link which describes FD. Just click on the link to read the entire article, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5768602/. Here is another link to a Mayo website that also discusses it, https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/nonulcer-stomach-pain/symptoms-causes/syc-20375709

From the articles it does appear that there can be many causes for this problem and that antidepressants can be used to treat this. If you are comfortable sharing more, could you explain what tests you had to rule out other disorders before the diagnosis was made and what was your main symptom? Also, how long ago were you diagnosed with functional dyspepsia"

How are each of you doing with your current treatments?

@jillannw, you mentioned that you are taking mirtazapine. Is that working well for you?
@vickylou, how is the FDgard working for you?

Will you each post an update and let me know how you are doing?
