Trying to find the right medications for my depression/anxiety

Posted by brit @brit, Jan 10, 2019

I have had depression for quite a few year now. I am in my 70's and found it harder to deal with. My psychiatrist has been working with me trying to find the best medication. So far no luck. He is very dedicated and does a great job trying to help. Right now I am takin 2 medications but they don't seem to do the
job either. They are Doxepin 25 mg and chlordiazepox. Help!

@breds1968 Sounds like you’re having an awful time! I’m so sorry. I just wish there was a quick way to make all of us better. Are you doing any talk therapy to help with the depression and anxiety! See if there is a mental health clinic in your area. Or check your health insurance to see what they cover. That’s how I started years ago. I’m with a therapist now and she has helped me thru some anxiety attacks. I wish you the best of luck!

@Breda1968 - wondering how you are doing with the depression? Have you and your psychiatrist come up with another treatment plan for when you are done with your taper off of venlafaxine (Effexor)?

Is there ever a right medication or combination of medications? I’ve been trying different meds for years; at first I feel like I’m better but then I’m right back where I started. I’m going thru a difficult period of totally not caring about anything & of laziness. Which comes first ~ the depression or laziness? I sleep 10 hours a night & 2 hours a day; I just can’t break out of the cycle.

The depression comes first! There is no way that we would choose to just sit and look all day, every day, at all the tasks waiting for us to take care of. Doesn’t matter what kind of task - I cannot get up and do it. I love love love my bed. We are not lazy! This is depression. I have found that upbeat music helps a lot.

@brit put on some soothing music and empty your mind just listen to the music and good thought of the past ,ocean sounds, Mts. maybe walking in the woods or just sitting listening to a bubbling brook to calm your thoughts
