Hi all...
There are several shots you can receive as part of a pain management plan. In addition, each doctor has a different kind of hand (gentle to rough).
That being said, there are a number of factors that impact the shot you will receive including:
1. Type of shot,
2. Medication used.
3. Reason for shot.
4. Severity of condition.
5. Hand of doctor (see above).
As far as how long the shot lasts (you'llsee some repetitionfrom above):
1. Type of medication used,
2. How inflamed you are,
3. How long since your previous shot (if any).
4. How well you watch yourself as to not irritate the hurting part****
a. A shot is like a bandage. If you overdo, the pain will return more quickly.
b. Resting for the day after the shot.
5. How well your doc gets the correct spit.

I went for different shots for years ans years. The ONLY times I received sedation was with my first shot and not knowing what to expect. Then when I had Radio Frequency Ablation.
As for pain??? I do feel it when the medication is first injected and hoes through your sustem, that is what I feel. Right after the shot I feel pain as the medicine goes through my system. It takes abot 39 minutes to stop. Since I have to wait for 15 min. after, the pain does not lasr much beyond my trip home. I always carry a pain pill or Extra Strength Tylenol.
As far as how long it lasts??? My first 4 doctors NEVER gave me more than a couple of weeks, if that. My current doc gave me 6 to 12 weeks relief. When my spinal issues became too bad and surgery was needed, the shot just took the edge off.
I hope all this helps.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
