@helenfrances Ellen, yes you are right! I will be riding a gentle horse soon... my own older horse. He was not sound enough to go on a trail riding trip with the girls, so I borrowed a horse from one of them that had been a brood mare but she wasn't ridden much, and didn't have prior trail experience except for the training we did with her riding local trails this spring to get ready for the trip. My horse is broke to death and would not have spooked at a loose dog and the accident would not have happened. I had to ride in last place because the mare was kicking at other horses which put me in position for the dog to come up behind me. I never saw the dog and there was no barking... no more green horses for me. I can ride my horse on the farm where he lives a little bit. He's such a fun guy who will unzip my jacket to look for the bag of carrots that he previously saw me stuff in there. I laughed when he did that. He follows me around wherever I go even off lead in the arena and he comes when I call him from the pasture. If you go to page 26 of this discussion, there is a photo of my horse and my cats are on page 19.
I will write later and tell you about my close call when a neighbor’s horse that I was riding reared!🐎
This is how I felt: 🦥
