@stuckonu I love to volunteer! Communities would not work if they didn’t have volunteers. I think that when you have much, it’s only right to give to those who don’t. Since I’ve been ill, I haven’t been able to volunteer like I did before, but now I come on MayoClinicConnect and volunteer my knowledge of healthcare and hospitals. And I’m very grateful that I can!

Like Becky I love volunteering. It is very rewarding. You meet amazing people, I met my best friend at the Police Dept, she brings me food so she really is my bested best friend ever.
While volunteering at the Police Dept I had a different opinion when a sergeant locked me up in an interrogation cell and told a bunch of people I worked with I was in there. They came by looked in and of course made fun.
Volunteering provided me with a sense of purpose since I couldn’t hold down a regular job because of so many seizures. Volunteering also helps prevent depression and anxiety if you don’t have it and improve it if you do. My experiences were educational and made me happy.
I hope you give it a try, it’s therapeutic in many ways as well.

@stuckonu Allow me to respond to this. I feel being able to have the ability/skill set to volunteer and do something positive for someone else is a show of gratitude for that ability/skill set. It creates positive feelings in both the giver and receiver. I do my volunteer work because it means I value what I can do to help others. I don't do it for accolades. Do you do anything that would be considered volunteer work? Yes, that is a pretty wide field.
