@debbraw Yes, that was indeed me who introduced that term for a step-child. My stepson is a blessing; his half-sister, my bonus daughter, well another story.

Today I am very grateful to have participated in the Donate Life Run/Walk, and was able to get a mile in with my wonky knee! Using trek poles helps keep my gait balanced. We met a man this morning walking in memory of his daughter, and it was a true blessing to hear his story. It was great for my husband to be able to tell a donor's family member how, as a recipient, you are grateful/humble for the gift of an organ, while feeling sadness/grief for the heartbreak of losing someone. He has often said this, but today he got to actually tell a donor's family member. I could tell it moved him.

@gingerw - I was moved by your story of how you and your husband participated in the Donate Life Run/Walk. Glad you made it with your bad knee. (Being in recovery from a knee replacement, I sympathize!) And I was so touched by how your husband was able to share his story with a donor family. I can just tell you are both beautiful people!
