Hi @raymarie2018, I love Kalispell MT.

I can imagine that you want to have a clear understanding of all the options for you and your husband to make an informed about his treatment. Naturally, I encourage you to get a second opinion from Mayo Clinic AZ, especially since you have insurance and family in the area. Here is the contact information for Mayo Clinic http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63

Having said that, it looks like you have thorough appointments lined up to get more information locally too. This information will be useful for a referral should you decide to consult Mayo Clinic. But as a nurses aide, you know that.

I'm not a medical professional, but when scanning the available literature online, I saw a few rare cases (single case studies) of appendicitis in relation to prostate cancer. They relationship was either as a symptom that led to diagnosis or metastatic prostate cancer causing appendicitis. Are the doctors suggesting that the best first step is to remove the appendix and then test to see if a) it contains cancer and b) it is metastacized prostate cancer or a different cancer?

Do you have a connection to Kalispell or have visited in the past? We moved here in 1978, lots of changes in 40 years!

To date, the doctors have not connected the appendix with the prostate. I would be very interested in reading any connecting between the two areas of the body and the cancer connection.

Can you direct me to the cases that connect the appendix and the prostate?
I think that, currently, they want to remove the appendix, and get it tested, then go from there.

The Urologist did wonder if we opted to have the prostate removed, could both surgery's be done at the same time. I wonder if we would have to wait the 6 weeks after the prostate biopsy to have the surgery for both the appendix and the prostate?

I will check into the 2nd opinion link, thank you!
