My doctor put me on Prolia about five years ago and I was in agony almost from the moment I got the injection. I did not make the connection until three years later. I became an old woman overnight it seemed. Could not walk properly, had difficulty getting in and out of the car, holding on to railings. When I was renewing my prescription at the pharmacy the pharmacist asked how I was getting on and I told her about my pains and she told me it was a side effect. When I researched it I saw the difficulties others were having and I refused to take the injection. Again, overnight I was back to my nimble self. My sons could not believe the difference in me. However, six months ago my doctor suggested I try it again and I am back to being in pain - I have to lift my legs into the car and the skin on my face has become red, scratchy, itchy, sore and crusting. It is disgusting. I am definitely not going to take a second injection. I am miserable.

I am so sorry you are going through this. There are other ways to deal with osteoporosis. I am using better nutrition, supplements, and I am also using a low-dose estrogen patch. My DEXA scan score was -5.7 and I was fracturing. That has stopped. I am taking boron (6 mg four times a day), Vitamins D3 and K2 (mk4, mk7), a little potassium, two kinds of magnesium (magnesium glycinate and magnesium L-threonate), and a little calcium (I try to get calcium from food - but I take one tablet a day to cover what I am not getting from food). I am no longer fracturing. I will be getting a DEXA scan as soon as the pandemic is over. There is a group on Facebook called Osteoporosis Natural Remedies where people post their before and after scores and what they did to improve. I wish you good luck.

Skin problems are listed as a common side effect of Prolia. Some women are reporting good results with a newer med called Evenity. Ask about all the other osteoporosis meds which might be better options for you (the bisphosphonates, Forteo).
I persist with Prolia (5 injections) eventhough it has made g.i. issues worse (the doctors say not the Prolia, but...) However, your experience has been terrible. Give yourself time to heal and hopefully you will once again be back to your "nimble self." BTW, is your doctor your family doc or is a specialist treating you? I see an endocrinologist.

That sounds like terrible side effects. May I ask if there is an alternative treatment and/or if you have considered getting a second opinion at a specialty hospital?
