Small Intestine Bacteria Overgrowth (SIBO)
My wife, after years of suffering from debilitating nausea and fatigue, has finally been diagnosed with SIBO as confirmed by a hydrogen breath test. It is estimated the bacteria has had at least two years to grow and may be well established. She has started on Xifaxan, at $35 per pill, but it is estimated that elimination of the SIBO may take up to six months. Her day now starts with her waking up with nausea and when she has a cup of tea and toast in the morning she gets sick within fifteen minutes thereafter. Her sickness is accompanied by violent belching, and at times she regurgitates liquid vile. The only drug she has for nausea is Zofran which does nothing for her. Are there any other SIBO sufferers that are experiencing the same symptoms, and what are you taking to reduce the nausea?

I read the carnivore diet is a good starting point to heal gut abdomen help with SIBO.
I was just tested and started antibiotics. Sadly, my GI does not retest. They just go by my symptoms as to whether its resolved or not.
Thank you! I fear this antibiotic is not working well. Ill have to wait it out until the end and see my GI. I did plan to add in the lowfod map or carnivore diet with herbals and probiotic.
I'm waiting for that rifaximin to get approved. I was told to take antibiotics, then after those start probiotics for a month along with the low FODMAP diet. My neighbor had it and that was her recommendation. GI doctor only said antibiotics. Do you know what kind of SIBO you have? Mine is the hydrogen- not methane. Ive read they are treated differently.
My GI nurse didn't even check to see if xifaxan was covered so they put me on amoxcicilin- clav. This isn't the best for SIBO. I see him Thursday and if I'm not feeling better, demanding they figure it out. They left me hanging here with this ( I suspected it) since last May. In 2 months I lost 30lbs from pain and they just said I guess IBS after a good Endoscopy. I did read eat normal on antibiotics then introduce the diet etc.
I have hydrogen, but they didn't even test for methane so I don't know if I have both.

I had a nutritionist recommend it to me. It did clean me out, think I saw things I digested in the 3rd grade!
I finally paid to see a a naturopathic MD. Regular doctors just know how to prescribe meds that just make things worse. They don't usually take insurance but they study nutrition and don't put you on the very meds that caused the problems in the first place! I've been dealing with stomach issues since the 90's. It's strictly foods that cause the issues.
From everything I've read it's antibiotics that caused this problem in the first place!! I've even read that people that went on antibiotics as children are way more susceptible to stomach issues. Antibiotics destroy good and bad bacteria so why a doctor would put you on the very thing that causes SIBO in the first place is beyond me!
Huh? I was just asking what kind of surgery because I've had 2 on my stomach. Just wondering if the SIBO was caused from that.
