Side Effects of Shingles Vaccine

Posted by ssbionicknee @ssbionicknee, Sep 20, 2018

I got the flu shot and the new shingles vaccination 3 days ago. Today I started feeling sick to my stomach. I've never had a reaction to the flu shot and was wondering if anyone else felt sick after getting the shingles vaccine?

I'm sorry you are having so many problems after receiving the shingles shot. Was this your first one? I had my second one a few months ago and the only thing I had was a sore arm for a day or so..... no other side effects. This was my third and final shot and didn't have problems with any of the others. Im not a dr so can only tell you how things went for me....... So wishing you good luck and hope you find the answer and get well soon. amira

I got the new Shingles shot on 02/24/2020. The first day I felt oK. By day 2 I awoke with a stiff neck (I cannot turn my neck left or right, up or down to my chest), I had a fever of 100.9, my ears ache, I have body aches, a headache that feels like my skull will blow right open, swollen glands, night sweats, nausea, difficulty with breathing, periodic fevers that shoot up and then come down and a sore throat. This is the 6th day I am feeling very poorly. I called my physician to see if this could be from the shot or if this could be the coronavirus. I am 70 years old with many complex health issues. I am wondering if this is outcome of the shot how long should it continue? I am feeling slightly worse with each passing day. Loss of appetite, under the weather. I need to lie down. I have been using my oxygen. Any recommendations?

Amira, I have not yet gotten the shingles vaccine. What did your doctor tell you when you called? If it were me, I would go to my doctor and get an exam, don't wait. Especially since you have other health issues. Hope your doc can get you fixed up and you feel better soon.

Hi @amira You said you called your doctor. What did the doctor say about this? Did he or she think that it could be from the shingles shot?
We are also patients, not medical professionals, so unless someone has had similar symptoms that were diagnosed as being from the shot I don't think we can advise you. I would call the doctor again and get an appointment. If you don't have any face masks put one on when you get to the doctor's office. Most doctors have them available in the waiting room.

They thought it was from the shingles shot. I called them on day 2 after the shot. This is the 7th day since I had the shot and I am still very much under the weather.

I have sent a message to my primary yesterday (day 6) telling her the same thing I have said here, but it is now Day 7. Stiff neck, pounding headache, swollen glands, ache all over, periodic fever, night sweats, etc. Nothing has really improved since my first message on this forum.

I was OUT of WHACK from November until the 1st or 2nd week in February and some things are better. After my last test to see if I have a disease then I'll know if The Shingles Vacinne is the culprit on a lot of my systems. If it is, then I will go forward with a complaint and more!

@amira It sounds to me as if it's time to actually see the doctor. I googled side effects from the shot and there was some good info on these sites::
https://www.healthline.com/health/shingles-vaccine-side-effects#outlook
https://health.usnews.com/health-care/patient-advice/articles/2018-06-15/a-new-shingles-vaccine-prepare-for-harsher-side-effects
https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd/shingles/public/shingrix/index.html
The last link has this info in it:
"If you experience side effects from Shingrix, you should report them to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS). Your doctor might file this report, or you can do it yourself through the VAERS website external, https://vaers.hhs.gov/index.html, or by calling 1-800-822-7967"

I suggest that you call that number to report the side-effects that seem to be from the shot or go to the website.

According to these articles, the side-effects should not last a week. They all say 2 - 3 days.
I hope you get some relief and can find out if the shot is causing your symptoms or it's something else. It would be helpful if would let us know how things go as you move forward.

My last test, I hope, is March 18th. My legs are much better and the burning is totally gone. I couldn't keep my balance at all for 4 months. Started back at the Y last Friday, went today. Will go tomorrow. I stopped going to the Y when all this started in November as I couldn't keep my balance, and the burning, etc. As for the double vision don't know if that is related or not.

I've seen my gastro doctor, my family doctor, my eye dr and a neurologist who did 3 tests and the 4th one will be 3.18th. Been to the ER several time, panic attacks started in November and finally they are now gone. Everything started when I got the 2nd shot but no one knows yet what is wrong with me. As for the first shot, I think that's when my double vision started but I don't know if that is related or not. It's not in my head, that's for sure. I start rehab on the 12th for my neck and spine, and am going to ask about my right arm as that has been hurting for months. I stopped doing arm exercises at the Y but it never went away. I don't think that has anything to do with the shots. Tired of all the doctors and the bills that go along with it.

I had night sweats too but not every day and it lasted from November to February.
