Thank you, @colleenyoung. 🙂 and Hello to you @engineer and @debbiefili . Welcome to the group.

The Otologist is the surgeon that specializes in hearing loss treatment. The Audiologist is the specialist that does the hearing tests and would consult with you and your wife about the results of the hearing test. The two professions reside in the same location at Mayo, Rochester. They work together with you to decipher what is best for the patients specific need. A baseline hearing test is typically done for every patient before seeing the otologist. There are so many options to improve loss of hearing. It's great that you are doing your research and being proactive in seeking healthcare. Make sure you search for a surgeon that is specialized and someone that will work to preserve the hearing your wife does have.

Please share this lovely story with your wife.- https://sharing.mayoclinic.org/2018/04/27/cochlear-implant-allows-judith-collins-to-relish-her-life-again/

I hope you have found the above information helpful.

How long has your wife been coping with her hearing loss? Does she still have some of her hearing or is it gone on both sides?

She definitely has hearing in both ears. One is better than the other. Her hearing loss has been going on for 2 - 3 years now. We both were widows for 15 - 17 years and married 6 years ago. Her hearing was reasonable good 6 years ago. @jamienolson
