Hi there Linda @lioness and @parrotqueen, @stoney, I just wanted to comment and confirm what your hand surgeon told you. The anchovy surgery is outpatient but also a tricky one. Evidently it usually occurs on the non-dominate hand first which is the one that you wear out holding doors open, steadying kitchen utensils, etc.
For me, the pain was a toughy although I did make it to Mahjongg in a couple of days. I lived at 6,000 feet elevation and the surgery was done at sea level.
The change in altitude caused so much swelling that the bandage became way too tight. I had to go back down the mountain and have it redone. Just a word to the wise. Altitude matters. Have a dose of joy today. Chris

I will ask about preloading the syringes - the problem is that both medications require shaking (enalapril and tramadol). That is a good idea - I will ask the vet about that. I know the birds are going to be super freaked out by something on my hand. Also, one bird will only take the medicine if I wrap a towel around her first. UGH. I may have to postpone this surgery. I have had birds since I was 15 and I am 68 now. They are old and I am old. I might be able to get a friend to help me for a few days but I hate to ask.
