When you have cancer you want answers. You want to cure it, beat it into submission but most of all you want answers. Why did I get this? How can I get rid of it and never have it come back. At this point in time, from what we know or are led to believe.....there is some idea as to how cancer forms and perhaps why (but the rules don't always seem to apply to each cancer) but medical science has only tested and gotten so far. Each day there are new discoveries and new treatments and with that new hope. But for those with cancer NOW it's never enough because we want to beat this and there seems to be no clear answer why some people do and others don't.
I am no stranger to cancer. Over the last 10 years it seems that's all I experience. My sister died of Stage 4 lung cancer, my step father of Stage 4 cancer of the esophagus, I have had breast cancer, Stage 1 and my husband is battling Stage 4 cancer of unknown primary (the who knows what's happening cancer essentially). One friend's son died of brain cancer the other from melanoma. My best friend had melanoma (now in complete remission) and her father died of colon cancer. I have multiple friends with breast cancer at various stages of treatment. Here is what I think about cancer and treatment:
Each person has to make a decision for themselves and it's very tough to do so. Medical and scientific means (chemo, radiation, pills) all can have very serious side effects. Sometimes they will work sometimes they will not. Sometimes they cause other side effects that even if they relieve or remove the cancer have to be faced and endured. Sometimes those side effects are overwhelming and ruin quality of health, sometimes not. Because cannabis is illegal on a federal level it hasn't been completely tested and therefore no definitive 'claims' can be made as to how it might help in the fight against cancer. Some people will get support from it and some will not. Some will experience side effects and some will not. I believe that every cancer patient should have a right to explore all the possibilities without fear and with their eyes open. There is obviously some benefit to cannabis on many levels and someday (I hope) enough research will have been done so that medical doctors can add it to the arsenal of weapons they use to fight cancer.
In the meantime.......as I've said before. My husband is using it as his only treatment because medical science has no other options for him because after a year of testing medical science can't even pinpoint his cancer type. Maybe it's having no effect on his cancer maybe it is. With no side effects, adding a plant to his course of treatment is a real no brainer for us. People have used marijuana for centuries around the world just as we now know that things like Vitamin D levels are important and reducing sugar and carbs is important in fighting cancer.
There are no miracle cures but there are alternatives and every patient should be aware of every option and move forward from there.
Very well said, @cindylb. You post should be required reading.
To all following this discussion:
Several members reported the post claiming to have cured melanoma with CBD oil.
The product name was removed from the above post. It was discovered that this exact post was published to multiple forums and appears to be a commercial testimonial not based in evidence.
The post is otherwise left published to allow members to recognize scam posts. I appreciate the posts from fellow members that followed so that we can all learn how to evaluate suspicious messages. I paraphrase here:
1. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Miracle cures do not exist.
2. To date there is no scientific evidence that CBD cures cancer, although it may help with symptoms and side effects.
3. CBD is being studied and there may be hope.
4. Conclusive scientific evidence to prove the use and efficacy of CBD will take time. Waiting is not a privilege that cancer patients have.
5. Some people will get support from it and some will not.
6. Some will experience side effects and some will not.
