I had diverticulitis for 3-4 years and took quite a few rounds of Cipro. My doctor retired and my new gastroenterologist felt it was imperative to have a sigmoidectomy. I had a kidney transplant 14 years prior to the diverticulitis. I had the sigmoidectomy with a laporoscope and had no problem and have had no problems since. Good luck!

@nosurgery- I understand especially in lite of the other complications & experiences, but I would still visit with at least 2 surgeons and have this discussion. Don't decide only on what is the simpler option, but try to come to a consensus in your discussions with both Dr's. I still believe that the vast majority of doctors still take their oath of "Do no harm" serious. May God give you wisdom & disernment as you work through this. Jim @thankful
