Leg pain and lumps
My 40 year old son has for the past year complained of chronic leg pain, has some small lumps which only appear when standing. The pain is worse when walking, and also at night. Has had MRI, only diagnosis limpomas. Having a hard time getting any diagnosis due to his insurance not approving tests. Has been off work for almost a year now, they will not let him come back until he gets a diagnosis. Is a vet, has had the anthrax vaccine, not sure if important. Had shin splints really bad while in the army. Has seen an orthopedist, no luck. Has had nerve conductivity test...good, Dr requesting blood work and an MRI of his back, which Cigna has denied. My daughter just had menengiom surgery at the Mayo, awesome care. Any help would be appreciated.

Interested to know more about daughter’s meningioma care at Mayo. In same boat. Thanks!
best place to go for this. She had the top surgeon at the Mayo in Jacksonville, Fl. She had three removed at same time, her suture is about 5 inches long. Had it done thursday the 5th of July, sent home the next afternoon. Has a strict schedule of meds. She is doing really good. So glad she went to the Mayo, don't think it would have been as successful.
@windyb, I am sorry to hear that your son is having trouble with his insurance company regarding tests being ordered. Has your son discussed this with his provider for any help or alternative tests that would work with his insurance?
He has and so far all 3 drs he has seen want the mri.....we got mri of leg..i borrowed for it..now they want of liwer back and again ins says not enough med evidence to warrant....wii get blood work.....possible diagnosis is tibial herniations....so frustrating...he is hurting and no one can figure out why without specific tests....thanks for ur reply
I will tell y what happened to me last year whilst away from home for four months ....
From Oregon driving to Mexico ......just over into Mexico and I started to get bad pain in my arm , swollen and lumps on the muscles at the top of my arm....I was already taking presnisone for PMR so took five Mgs instead of two......thought it was PMR ......it was very painful in fact my husband told the Doc when we got back that I was guarding it......Doc said it was crystals.......still get just a bit of it now.....hope you are getting somewhere....Beryl
thank you for your reply....what is PMR?....he has a Dr appt on thursday, possibility his problem is tibial herniation....I hope, he just needs someone to diagnose what is wrong....
PMR is Polymyalgia Rhumatica......muscles and ligaments......Beryl
PMR in Greek means many aching muscles. I have had PMR for many years and the definition is very accurate.
I would like to say that I only had aching muscles Edith , mine is pain and for many years to , it's less of course as the ten years have gone on......Beryl
@windyb, I hope your son's appointment goes well today and you at the very least find a course to a diagnosis. We will wait for your update.
