Side effects with omeprazole/Prilosec use
i am an 18-year user of daily OTC Prilosec. It does a perfect job of controlling my GERD but I am constantly battling side effects of nutritional deficiencies in iron, B-12, magnesium, etc. For example, my hair is extremely thin and loss of energy is a constant problem. I am looking for specific help in knowing which supplements to take for this and in what doses and formats and on what schedule. All the nutritionists I've found locally are not well-versed in Prilosec use. Is there a medical provider out there who specializes in this? And would they be willing to work with me long distance?

Thank you for posting the excellent article about drinking water. Many things I didn’t know and am grateful to have this understanding.

1 Reaction@lacy2. It is important to test your well water, particularly after anything that may have affected it. We have well water from 700’ down and had to replace the pump last year. We ended up having to do two disinfections before it was pure enough. The impurities weren’t that bad, and some people probably would have lived with them but due to my compromised immune system we would not take a chance.
I think that site is basically one that links you to local businesses, so advertising, but it does have some good info. I was surprised that it didn’t mention salt in the water. Our well is next to the driveway so we are very careful not use salt on the driveway when there’s icy weather.

@lacy2 Even though it was a link to local water treatment places it did have some very good info. As I said, I was just surprised that it didn't mention salt but maybe it was not written by someone in a snowy state where salt is often used on roads and driveways. I hope that being 700' down does help with our water purity, that's a lot of filtering on its way down.
Our water is better tasting than good purchased water like Poland Springs. We are very spoiled in that regard.

I started trying to get off it as i have been taking it for 6-7-8 who remembers how long. I started having a tightness in my throat, like something is laying on the back of my throat or tongue. I might take one every few days. LATE YESTERDAY i had to take one as the so called heartburn hit me some time after my afternoon coffee. Apple juice also seems to help a little. I waited for dinner just had a light salad I am not going to take one today, we will see how it goes. Coffee is a pleasant habit until it isn't .

1 ReactionTry healthwise low acid coffee, that's what I drink. Apple juice is acidic so I never drink it.
Drop all spicy and acidic food and drink from your diet.

1 Reaction@stash as @riflemanz64 mentioned, there are low-acid coffees. I had to drink them due to Barrett’s Esophagus which is now in remission. Dark roast coffees all have less acid than other coffees because the acid burns off in the longer roasting time.
I presume you are you not using very vinegary salad dressing either. I never knew that almond is alkaline. I was drinking a lot of that until I realized I needed more protein for my osteoporosis. Now I use regular low-fat milk in my oatmeal in the morning. I actually like almond milk in it more though.
JK
JK, that’s awesome that your Barrett’s is in remission just like mine. The low acid diet does work! Keep up the good work!
