Cholesterol
I am anticipating a kidney transplant and read somewhere that the meds taken would raise my cholesterol. I learned so much from this group and wonder,if anyone knows a special diet that would be kidney and cholesterol friendly. Is there a book out there or a web site specific for this diet. Tanks

@beach757, I have a liver/kidney transplant. And I was advised to plan to eat a balanced diet - one that is healthy, balanced, one that is low to moderate in salt (sodium), cholesterol, fat, and sugar. You can find a variety of heart healthy diets and recipes on line and in cookbooks. (Heart Healthy) Here is a link that might get you started: https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/recipes
After my transplant, I was scheduled for appointment with a dietitian/nutritionist who helped me to know what I needed for my own situation and needs.
Let me know if this helps you. I look forward to hearing from you, and from others with their experiences.
Rosemary
@beach757 I had a pancreas transplant in 2005 for the purpose of saving my vision and kidney function. (I was diagnosed type 1 diabetic in 1975.) Now I am also anticipating a kidney transplant. My local medical team mainly consists of a primary, endocrinologist, nephrologist and nutritionist. I’ve been on a statin medication for a very long time. It is a medication for cholesterol. My diet is generally low carb, low fat and low sodium. After my pancreas transplant I did not experience an increase in cholesterol. When I had my pretransplant evaluation for kidney transplant I was told that my cholesterol is fine. The information that @rosemarya gave is very good. If you don’t already have one, you will likely get a dietician/nutritionist as you get closer to transplant. That should be helpful as well.
I had a pancreas only transplant Aug of 2016. No kidney transplant. Was brittle type 1 diabetic for just under 51 years.
