Post Total Knee Replacement - Pain and Burning
I am 4 weeks post op and continue have pain 24/7. Mostly aching with nerve pain. I am s anxious to be without this pain . Would like to know the experience others have. I go to PT 3 times a week, walk daily, and go to YMCA to work out.

I had both replaced. As time goes on the pain will go away. You are doing all the right things. Keep walking.
Thank you. Needed to hear that.
It sure sounds like you’re doing good. I’m 3 weeks post-op and even though exercise and PT are going good, I still have a lot of pain too. Especially after PT. It’s very discouraging, but it is what it is. You’re doing the best you can. I’m learning NOT to compare myself to others. My PT gal said that’s a big mistake. Everyone is different.
Hello @kmart,
I am glad a few other members jumped in to this conversation. I had my right knee replaced in 2006. My recovery was long and difficult because I had aggressive scar tissue growth. I learned quickly that each person responds differently to a knee replacement. It is important to give yourself some breaks and to not be too hard on yourself. We all recover differently, and if you are staying active, I am confident that you will continue to progress and the pain will get better. I had to have two knee manipulations, so my recovery was delayed a long time, but in the end, I now have 0-110 ROM and am completely pain free. It was a hard road, but it was entirely worth it and improved my quality of life immensely. There are a few other discussions on knee replacements and scar tissue formation if you are interested.
Thank you for your journey with knee replacement. Yes I would like to be part of the other discussions
@kmart, here is a large, ongoing discussion on knee replacements, recovery/rehab, and how other members have dealt with scar tissue formation after the surgery, https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/scar-tissue-after-knee-replacement/. I suggest clicking on the link and reading through some of the posts and joining where you feel comfortable. I think this will be a great resource for you as you continue your recovery.
I had TKR 15 months ago. Recently I experience serious pain while walking. Iced and pain went away, however, I now have burning in front of the knee and over all aching. Has anyone experienced this? I had made an appointment with my NS but cancelled since the serious pain is gone..
Hi @kmart, I moved your latest message to the previous discussion you started about post surgical pain. I did this so that other members could see more of your history since having a total knee replacement. I also added more to the title of the discussion to distinguish the topic from other discussion about TKR.
It must be a relief that the pain finally went away, but frustrating that it was replaced by a burning sensation and aching. I'm not a medical professional, but I think you should reschedule that appointment to rule out infection. What do you think?
