We have had members post about fecal transplants. While we wait for others to post, I thought you might find this Mayo video interesting, Are you considering a fecal implant for Crohn's disease?

Good morning!!! I heard that fecal transplants/implants can cause death? Also that they are either causing people to be miserable if not done correctly. Don't ask me where I heard it from, I remember it specifically, because the doctor was telling me when they were talking about it that it works very well there is not very many problems with it and then I read that. I was horrified!!! Didn't really make me want to have one if I ever had too. I have Recurring C-diff apparently its going to like my body and they were talking about doing that this past time if the last drug didn't work. Not to make anyone afraid of it, but you might want to do your research!!! There may not be a lot in this post but there is a lot out there

it saved my daughter's life--she had recurring C. Difficile that was persistent and she was only 12. Very scary and debilitating. FMT process is easy and I found it safe. Mayo Clinic is a safe place for it, but it is being done all over now. At the time we were pioneers. It is a simple and immediate fix for C. diff. I'm forever grateful.

Just before her procedure, the doc prescribed Rifaximin, which was very effective and she had no side effects. It was unclear how long she'd have to take it, however, and we wanted out of the two-year hell we'd been through.

I read about fecal transplants a few months ago. Then within a few days of reading about it I watched a documentary on it. How fascinating! That said, I recall mentioning it to a few people who thought that I was kidding or crazy. I must admit it seemed so odd that someone would even think to do this. Does anyone else agree with me about this procedure? Please pardon this next pun but I’m not poo pooing it in any way. I’m just saying who was sitting around one day thinking: “ hmmm maybe I can transplant some fecal matter from a health person into a sick person and the health poo will take over the whole colon and or other parts of the excrement system and it will work and make things healthy again? In a way I think it’s genius. But honestly, can’t you see how many people may thinks your crazy?
I wonder how many other cures may exist in this type of thinking outside the box?
I’m so happy for all of you who have dared to go there and I too am looking forward to reading more about the successes!

@sandyjr I had the FMT on Feb 28 of this year. I got symptoms of CDiff on Thanksgiving Day of 2018. I was put on Flagyl which failed and 2-3 rounds of Vancomycin. Dificid was not affordable but the FMT was free. So bizarre.. Medicare. Anyway, I have many health problems. I’m on disability due to a combo of issues. I have Crohns Disease and due to that complicating matters and my recurrent C Diff, my doc recommended it. I had trouble getting my bowels back to normal for awhile but I think that’s to be expected. At least for me due to Crohns. I did not have C Diff issues afterwards. I would recommend it! I have had many colonoscopies so this was not any different than that and a colonoscopy is no big deal. You are asleep. My doc gave me Imodium right after the FMT but when I got home I leaked a little. Looking back, he wondered if he should have given it to me before. I live in a town of 100,000 in Texas so I was thrilled he could do it and had done it before!! I hope you get well soon!!!
