We just moved to an new home on Hawkeye Ridge Circle in southern California. Guess what we see everyday here? Lots of hawks, huge crows, and many small birds who chatter up a storm. There are also many hummingbirds. I love watching them flitter about the flowers. They are so pretty and swift. Our kitties love watching them also, but thankfully they're too old to actually catch them. I'll be learning more about the different birds here as we settle in to the new home. I do find that watching the birds and being outside in the natural, peaceful environment reduces my anxiety and increases my joy. I am planning where to plant my current gardenia (my favorite flower), huge split leaf philodandrum, and beautiful pink double camellia here. They are in planters currently, so I want to put them in the ground here. I just hope they survive until I can get it done.

@gailb sounds lovely Im not sure where that is but Im going to look it up enjoy your new home its always exciting to move in and plan a garden. In Pa the gardenia was a bush not a tree like there are here , so many diff. trees here and flowers then back east. Its amazing what God has painted everywhere the desert is so different also. I do miss the beautiful birds your right the pigeons,crows, hawks not like the beautiful colored birds I have been use to all mylife although on the roof one day I saw a golden eagle it was beautiful it was so close I could see the veins in the feathers. enjoy your new home Linda

@lioness

Our home is still in Yorba Linda, at the top of Mt. San Antonio. Very quiet and beautiful views here. We wouldn't be able to afford to live here on our own, so are thankful to my stepdaughter for her generosity of asking us to live with her. It's a bit like living in a resort. Today I got worried about the huge crows possibly grabbing one of the kitties! They fly right up to the back yard and swoop around. I've decided that I need to be outside when the cats are. LOL.

@gailb good idea your place sounds great.

@gailb I love that drive through the Santa Ana Canyon on Hwy 91. Beautiful Area that I've driven through many times on my way from my family's place in San Bernardino to Long Beach when I was in the Navy. You do have to be careful when the fog is rolling through though. I've seen many 100+ car pile ups. Do you take bird photos? That would be great fun if I lived there.

I lived in Fallbrook loved it. We sold and went to Oregon.

@gailb ah yes, a warmer climate. Yesterday evening I saw an immature Sharp-Shinned Hawk try to nab a squirrel. Young and inexperienced (also too small even if mature) it failed. I was in favor of the hawk as the furry-tailed rodents are taking over the neighborhood!!! I do NOT think these rodents are cute!!!! My 2 cents worth.
Smell the Gardenias for me and I will enjoy the evening aroma of the Four-O'Clocks here in IN.
