Just responded earlier - s/b New York News and World Report ----- best source of info. There are many good hospitals (although I don't know what you're being treated for) in NYC and right in NJ and I'm a stickler!

Hi shoregal45. Jersey shore? Spent my summer girlhood years down there. Have you had experience with Mayo? Is that why you're suggesting NY and NJ hospitals?

No thank God I haven't been in a hospital since the 90's and I hope that covers it!!! I am a Jersey Shore summer gal ever since birth! I always check out Mayo's website when I do my researching as they are my "go to" spot. Other than their newsletters and this Connect I don't have any reason to check with them for doctors, etc. as there are so many good ones in NYC there's no need, thank God. Good luck to you.

Depending on what you need to be treated for Mayo is possibly not the best option always. As a nurse and a family member of a previous patient, I have definitely seen some concerning things. I feel the clinic is good, specialists are good in most areas with a few areas that are lacking , but over the last few years there has been a decided shift in things and a decline is care at St Mary's from what I can see and some pretty big concerns that I have seen first hand as a nurse and as family. Big enough that our own child will no longer be having surgery there this summer.

So while I think Mayo does good work in most areas, they are not perfect and some areas I would literally tell people to look elsewhere.
So do your research and do even more research on the actual physicians you plan to see. Make sure Mayo fits what you need.

@wisfamily, I agree that we do need to be advocates for the best treatment and care of ourselves and for our loved ones. Educating ourselves and working with our doctors is of primary importance.
As a patient, myself, I know that our feedback to our care facilities is always appreciated. I encourage you to speak to the department with your concerns.
As a mom, I am sorry that you were not satisfied. (and that is wherever at Mayo, or wherever) I send my hopes and blessings to your child.
Rosemary
