I hope this isn't too off-topic but I also have a GAD diagnosis. I was taking Xanax 1mg, three times per day. I was able to wean down to 1.5mg (.5mg tid) per day then hit the proverbial wall. The short half-life of Xanax lends itself to between dose withdrawal symptoms and it became too difficult. Switching to diazepam (Valium) in the titration process has made all the difference. It has a much longer half-life. I am now done to 4mg of diazepam per day and should complete the titration by mid-February. I have not experienced withdrawal AT ALL which, from everything I've read about benzodiazepines, is pretty amazing.

@elssa1000- A warm welcome to Connect-Back many many years ago when not much was known about the long term side affects of valium. I had a horrible time with getting off of it and had to be given Librium to make it through the process. I'm glad that you are taking it easy and weaning off of it very slowly. Are you doing this on your own or under a doctor's guidance?
