Constant “pain IN my eyes”.

Posted by wicdic @wicdic, Jan 7, 2018

Have had all tests possible including glaucoma. The only way to relieve the pain is by pressing hard directly on my eyes.

I'm sorry you're having so much pain. I suppose you've been to an allergist and had all of the brain scans. I hope you find a solution soon, other than pushing on your eyes.

It may be corneal neuropathy ?! I went to an eye specialist and they didn’t even diagnose that but I know that’s what I have. I think that’s the correct name ..?! Also I may have missed spelled that.? iI believe t’s neuropathy in the the eyes at any rate! At least for me. It seems like eyedrops give me relief even if it’s psychological.?! I pour it in my eyes..! God bless you & hang in there! One god given day @a time...

@wicdic, I recently felt an eye pain, and when I looked sideways, or when I rubbed over my eyelids, I could feel it. It eased and within a couple days was gone. I told this to my retina specialist yesterday. He mentioned the lacrimal glands (tear glands), which sometimes can become irritated or inflamed. He was not concerned in my case.

My ophthalmologist has been attending to my dry eye conditions including pain for several years. There are so many nerves affected by SFN even in the eyes that it may explain an increasing dry eye situation. My lacrimal glands actually started to dry up as the disorder progressed. So, I now use Xiidra...a relatively new medication for dry eyes. I also use preservative free nighttime ointment in the am and pm. Last year I began getting Lipiflow treatments fo preserve the rest of my lacrimal glands. They worked. Warm compresses morning and night help. Scrunching up your eyelids several times morning and night also helps to keep those glands doing what they are supposed to be doing. The pain usually hits in the afternoon after extensive computer device use. Curtailing the amount of time you spend looking at screens can help. Also, setting your screens from day to night earlier can help. I use Refresh Plus during the which I keep in the refrigerator and that soothes the eyes. And it is known that drugs often taken for SFN can create or increase dry eye condition. Hang in there!

And I almost forgot 2 other dry eye helpers. One is sunglasses with foam around the inside. They help to keep the moisture in your eyes. And nice to have but not terribly helpful during the night when your eyes are closed....a humidifier.....if you live in low humidity areas like me. And the last resort is to move to a rain forest or other high humidity locale. My eyes are always better when I return to CA from MN because the weather in general and humidity are hospitable environments for dry eye folks. Chris

@artscaping, Chris, thank you for sharing this information.
I am currently being treated for a different, nonrelated eye condition. And I want to share that I have been advised to avoid the generic brand of eye drops because they can cause more irritation due to the chemical solutions involved.

Good to know. I wonder what chemical is in that is irritating. Not all generatic are like the trade name. When the new Nexium generic came out, I got esophagitis. I tried it two different times and the same. I have to use the trade name so I do believe your doctor. Good luck.

I understand: Xiidra is not a generic. And consequently is very $$$$$$$- That is the only treatment medication I am using. Everything else is just lifestyle changes and what I call “soothers”.
