Dealing with symptoms after Gallbladder surgery

Hi is there anyone out there that suffers from nausea and pain almost 4 weeks after gallbladder operation. Every time I eat anything i get pain in site of operation. And tired all the time no energy

I had my gall bladder removed almost 2 weeks ago.
I wish I had got a second opinion , or read up on the complications , I seriously am sick of it .
I feel heartburn , severe heartburn that I would guess a heart attack would feel like. No energy , I cannot get out of bed , it's a persistant, burning .
I vomitted once since the surgery, it was horrible
Like acid .I never had issues with my stomach , I have been living with severe pulmonary hypertension, congestive heart failure , diagnosed in 2012 , my pulmonologist, and cardiologist have worked hard finding medications to battle this progressive lung disease, at 46 yrs I didn't think it could get worse.. then this.
I see no hope.

My gallbladder was removed because it had only 14% function. I did have to be careful about what I ate for awhile, but now, 15 years later, I eat a normal, healthy diet. Sometimes at bedtime I take some Tums to settle my stomach. Sometimes I just take a couple because my mouth is dry.

I've read that people do sometimes have difficulty in recovery. I hope that your symptoms will improve soon. I agree that talking with doctors might be helpful.

I had my gall bladder removed almost 2 weeks ago.

I also had gallbladder surgery many years ago. However, the surgery was in connection with a major surgery to remove a rare form of cancer called neuroendocrine tumor (NET or sometimes referred to as Carcinoid). Because the two surgeries were combined into one procedure I'm not sure how my recovery went from the gallbladder sugery.

I realize that when you have multiple serious diagnoses it becomes very stressful to have another health problem, it can seem just overwhelming, can't it? However, before you conclude, "I see no hope" you really need to contact your surgeon or other doctor regarding your post-surgery symptoms. They may certainly have suggestions to help you through this and make you more comfortable.

Hi I just had my gallbladder out two weeks ago and have horrible nausea and no appetite. Anybody out there have this?

You mention problems after gallbladder surgery 4 weeks ago. As you know, everyone's recovery from surgery is different. You do not mention your age, nor the type of surgery you had (open or laparoscopy). These are important factors. As we age, recovery is a bit slower than that of a younger person. Here is some general information about gallbladder removal from Mayo Clinic's website, https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/cholecystectomy/home/ovc-20229995

My first thought would be whether you have contacted your doctor's office (either by phone or through My Chart) to let them know of your symptoms? If not, I would certainly do that.

Perhaps some other Members will post about their experiences after gallbladder removal as well.

Will you keep in touch with us and let us know how you are doing?

Hi I am two weeks post surgery and experiencing exactly what you said. I have a lot of horrible nausea. I’m very tired and depressed. Did yours resolve?

@paula1957, Hi, and welcome to Mayo Connect. I am sorry that you are feeling these worrisome symptoms. I have not experienced such a surgery, but I will share my husband's experience.
My husband had gall bladder surgery a few years ago. His surgery was in early October, and he was not eating a regular diet until mid December (I remember that because he said he couldn't wait to eat a traditional Christmas Dinner). He lost around 8 lbs during this time (and was quite pleased about that side effect). After his surgery, he had nausea, too and no appetite. He mostly sipped warm tea, and warm chicken broth and nibbled on some crackers. Because he couldn't keep jello down in the hospital, he refused to even try that. He was able to gradually add foods to hie diet as his appetite returned and the nausea subsided.
His doctor recommended to avoid spicy and fried foods for a while, and even suggested that those items might be hard on his system once he did recover. He has had no episodes of nausea or problematic food issues since then (2016).
Are you taking any pain meds or antibiotics? Sometimes these can affect your system for a while.

Paula, What kind of follow-up has your surgeon suggested for you?

have your surgeon prescribe zofran for the nausea. It had helped me after fundoplication as well as after gallbladder removal in 2017.....kozlo52
