Gastroenterologist/ hepatologist
I want to know what's the difference between a gastroenterologist and hepatologist because just recently l went to a new gasterentogist he was one of the partners of my previous one and l thought l was seeing him for my elevated ammonia and so l told him l didn't know my levels if they were high or low or if they can fluctuate at different times. He told me your levels are normal. I can tell by looking and hearing you. Your not confused and your not jaundice but l told him l am bloated and gaining weight. Which l know could be ascites. I showed him that the Mayo Clinic vascular medicine doctor said my TIP surgery was done incorrectly and l had an appointment with the gastroenterologist there but l also found out looking at my appointment again that the gastroenterologist l am to see is also a hepatologist. No w l don't know the difference? Since when l went to my previous gasterentogist did everything in the begin. Is the hepatologist to continue to follow up with you in case it runs in to more complications with TIP procedure since it was done incorrectly. Does anyone know? I looked it up but it really doesn't explain that. But next week is when l had out to the Mayo clinic. I guess l will find out but l would like to know before l see the doctors. I am nor afraid, just want to know if anyone knows the difference?

@techi Lisa, your new doctor sounds great. Happy that you have found a “keeper”. I wish I could! I guess you have to decide which doctor you are more comfortable with. I don’t remember where you live but around here (Manchester NH vicinity) I no longer feel comfortable with the level of expertise of the local doctors and Boston is about 55 miles down the road. For me, it’s worth it to make that drive.
Good luck with your decision and with your diagnosis.

There is not a gym for wimps, if you go and do anything other than say hello, you're not a wimp!
@contentandwell, I was sure that you were on top of the transplant part of your treatment. It is evident that you are very proactive with your health.
I can feel the relief in your responses today since you met with your surgeon. As Teresa says, It is a good thing that you made so many wedding preps in advance! Gradual improvement without over doing it, and the pain management should work wonders for you during the next weeks prior to the festivities.
I completely understand what you mean about questioning the transplant drugs! I have shared the same concern with my own transplant team on several occasions, and...I got the same response from them!

@hopeful33250 Thanks Teresa. When I took this on, at my daughter’s request, all of the little things did not occur to me — enough chairs, glassware, plates, all of that. We went to a rental place and were able to rent exactly the number of things we need — 5 additional chairs, nicer than bridge chairs, some plates — I do not mind eclectic, nor does my daughter. We both sort of like that. I am renting enough flatware for everyone. Colored cloth napkins. We are renting quite a bit and when we got the final price it was under $100 so not too much in the whole scheme of things, thankfully. I ordered a wedding cake this week. I was able to order it this late because it’s a very small wedding cake — an 8” tier and a 6” tier. Amazingly my daughter and I both agreed on what our favorite cake was from all the designs on the website! So I am feeling pretty well ready. My only regret is that our son will not make it home since he will be coming two weeks later for the reception in NYC, and then for Christmas.

@hopeful33250 I hope I will get my independence back, but not sure how much longer I will need the narcotics. It certainly gives me incentive to get off of them.
JK
@gman007 Doctors generally will not allow a patient to drive while on narcotics. If you were in an accident or were stopped by the police for any reason you could be in a lot of trouble. Previous times I have been on things like oxycodone whichever doctor who prescribed it said I could drive if I only took it at bedtime but this doctor says no to that even.
Not only do I love honey roasted peanuts but fresh ground honey roasted peanut butter is very addictive. ;-). A definite downfall for me.

Try to give yourself the time you need - I understand how difficult it is!

JK, @contentandwell,
You have this planned to the last detail, good work! Try and rest so that you can enjoy your efforts when the big day comes.

I was suppose to go this weekend but my husband said if we are only going for a consultation it doesn't make sense to go right now. I texted the vascular department to find out was it only a consultation and the nurse said yes, so we said we would wait to see what this new doctor says so after l cancelled everything l looked on the doctors notes and it said procedure so l wish she would have said that but then l thought about it and l said she is only reading what's on the computer.so l have another appointment setup for Dec 28th if it's not snowing. And if this doctor here doesn't want to do the procedure then l will definitely have it done at the Mayo clinic. I want to trust him but l am afraid after they did it wrong the first time but he reassured me he would do it himself so it sounds reassuring. So he's waiting to get all the film's and he should get them by next week and l will know the following week. So l will keep you posted. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!
@hopeful33250 Thanks Teresa. I have to keep going over it all in my mind to make sure I have everything I need on hand. Fortunately I have a good assortment of things, they won’t match but as I commented before, that’s fine with me and with my daughter. I sure wish she was a bit more on top of things though. The big NYC celebration is in three weeks and she still does not have a dress! She sends me pictures of ones she likes but she is trying to not be too indulgent so she won’t spend over a certain amount. She would never find anything in her price range if she was wearing an actual wedding dress.
