I do almost daily research about anxiety and depression and have discovered that these maladies are not being ignored as there are many studies that use imaging to find out what part of the brain causes the two problems. These researchers are working very hard to find the answers and I want to assure you that these two problems have the attention of many people who are devoting their lives to finding the answer

You mentioned cancer and today many people, like one of my nieces who was receently diagnosed with what used to be terminal cancer and now is being treated with chemo that almost guarantees her five more years of life with the doctor telling her that by that time there will be a cure.

So if it is any consolation to know that anxiety and depression are the subject of many studies with a good chance they will find the answer to what causes it and alleviate the symptoms.

I hope they can figure out a way to control these horrible conditions. I have been fighting Anxiety and Depression for years. I want so bad to feel half way normal. Iam 72 and have treatment resistant Anxiety and Depression. Every day is a struggle. Every night i go to bed, i hope tomorrow will be better.

Wouldnt that be great if you could just get over it. None of us like the way we are. This time around with my depression, it has been a full year of feeling like hell. I dont know when or if it will end. Iam 72 and treatment resistant. My last depression and anxiety lasted for 2 years.

Some folks are just ignorant of the reality of depression and how hard it is to overcome. It can become so habitual that it is hard to break from a depressive cycle.

@anniegk -- I am really sorry to hear this year has felt like hell, with no end in sight. I, too, hope answers can be found in some of these studies on anxiety and depression.

With you, @anniegk.

The Good news, My Dr. told me that there are some very good depression meds on the horizon. The bad news, they are about 1 1/2 to 2 years away. Hey, I'll take any hope I can get !

A friend of over 50 years who does not at all understand depression & anxiety tells me, just go for a walk, call someone, read a book and they just don't get it. Only if it were that simple ! ! ! People who don't understand can be very anoying !

Great news. If it is very promising they might up that date!

I wish it were that easy. For me, its the horrible Anxiety that i get and than i get depressed because i cant control the Anxiety. Iam on so many meds. But i still feel bad.

@donny67 These type of people certainly can be annoying and people like us are annoying to them. Even a psychologist does not get it !!! LHM...if a pill cannot fix something then our symptoms are all in our heads (pun intended or as anyone would like to interpret). I best not type another word lest someone suggest I read the my Bible and pray. Even depression existed in the OT.
