Our situations aren't the same, but your description has spurred me along to call my surgeon for the answer to a question I've had for years. I had to have right side colon resection. I had a precancerous (as it turned out) adematous polyp right at the valve. A change in prep routine had revealed it when no previous colonoscopy had. It was obstructing the valve by about 50%. My colon configuration was unusual in that there was no attachment where there normally would be at the junction of the right side and transverse colon. The surgeon said that it was just a matter of pulling the transverse section down and then joining it to the ileum. He didn't say if I lost the valve or not. My problem is that my evening meal triggers violent, painful diarrhea. Only that meal. I've finally started taking loperamide in advance and that helps. I'm resolved to call his office for an answer to that question today. If they had to take the valve, then that might explain my symptoms...

I already had collagenous colitis, so I've lost a lot of water absorption ability in my colon. It suggested Questran (which I hate), in addition to the loperamide...
