hip replacement
I am an eighty year old woman, I had a hip replaced about 45 days ago. Everything has been going fine until the last couple of days, my incision has healed up fine but I now have pain and burning in that area, it doesn't look infected. My concern, could there be an infection near the part that was replaced. This a weekend so I can't reach my doctor.

Good evening @lane. Welcome to Mayo Connect. Whizzing through my emails I came across your message and wanted to give you a reaction from somebody who is not a medical professional:
If there is infection deep in the hip joint after surgery, it might not "appear infected," even though it might be. If I were you, I'd check my temperature every few hours, and if it rises a couple of degrees or more, I'd have somebody take me to the emergency room. Whoever takes you there will be an extra set of ears to hear and remember what the ER medical staff tells you.

Thank you for your reply and that is what I am doing.
Hope you have solved it by this time. I will add that I had a hip replacement four years ago and occasionally I will move a certain way and it will burn.
Thank you, every bit of info helps me quit worrying.
Welcome to Connect, @lane,
I can imagine you must be quite worried, and I'm so glad @predictable's suggestions have given you some reassurance. Here's some more information from Mayo Clinic, about the possible risks of hip replacement surgery:

I am an 86 year old woman with a 27 year old hip. I was told i might need a revision. Is that a serious problem, since I have so many other problems with my back and constant pain. Trying to get some information as to what channels to go through. I have spinal stenosis, and scoliosis, and also had two spinal fusions. Have seen a doctor and was told the area is a nerve in he thoracic area. Nothing seems to help my 24/7 pain. Any suggestions?
