Thanks to both of you for the honest replies. I have a follow up with my primary care doc this week. At this point I don't think any number of colonoscopies is going to yield any useful information. What I know is that both bleeds seem to show bright red, indicating a lower bowel issue rather than small intestine. I'd like to ask him about at least consulting with a GI to see if a CT angiogram could point to a general location of bleeding. Maybe there's a small chance that there's trace amount of blood continuously leaking from a single location. I dunno. I feel like I'm grasping a straws but don't want to sit around waiting for the next episode to send me back to the ER.

@emodica, I’m glad you found Mayo Clinic Connect and have connected with members willing to share their experiences.

You’ve described two frightening episodes of significant blood loss, and I can understand why you don’t want to wait for another one before getting more answers.

It sounds like you’re preparing some thoughtful questions for your upcoming appointment. In addition to exploring how the source of bleeding might be identified, have you and your doctors discussed a plan for what to do if another episode occurs, especially if you’re away from home?

I hope you’ll consider sharing what you learn from your follow-up. Your experience may help others navigating similar uncertainties.
