Just saw your question. I am retired now but my job for the last 19 years was market research professional in high tech. So research and analysis is normal for me. I have made my medical issues a personal research project. My sources
1) AI because it can analyze information immediately and provide feedback. I "clean" my information before inputting it into AI because AI confuses dates sometimes. AI does provide its sources of info.
2) Sources I like are Mayo and Cleveland Clinic - well known research centers.; Medical journals like New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), The Lancet, JAMA, and BMJ ; and NIH (National Institutes of Health) has all the posted research papers
3) Regarding doctors, first I look for one that has a significant background in my issue and not a generalist and specialists have subspecialties, so it is important to find one that actually treats many patients with the medical issue you have. I also look at the doctor's background to see if they have done relevant research in my area and have published anything.
I note that doctors do not tell you everything, so it is very important to read your test results yourself and check things out. And some doctors like a puzzle where others don't. If you are a puzzle you need the doctor that is really intellectually curious or at least knows it is not their area and sends you to someone who knows more. I like my primary care guy who when I asked a specific question about an osteoporosis drug change told me it was above his paygrade and I needed a specialist.
I think one big issue is that most people don't know how to recognize the real specialist (who has spent many years in study and research and is recognized by his/her peers) from someone who is just selling a book based on unproven research
