@nycmusic @hatetocook The both of you have spurred several members to take a good look at what they are eating, I bet! That's a great thing. Sometimes we forget the small things we can do to make a difference. We don't need to go to extremes or "whole hog" as the old saying goes. Yep, just dated myself!

Hummus and apple slices is a good snack, or pair it with a couple of celery sticks. When I was working, that was my usual breakfast, if I didn't have oatmeal. Careful of the dairy and calcium; most renal diets advise only a quarter to half cup per day maximum.

There is a simple protein shake to make, using greek yogurt, almond milk, pea protein powder, and fruit. Blend together and it will help you stay full. I like to make homemade applesauce so that really is good in the shake. Also, I will cook enough chicken to have some available to snack on during the day.

@gingerw together, we will sort this out…even enjoy foods with suggestions you made.

@gingerw Thanks Ginger! I didn't know about the dairy and calcium. I like celery sticks, but I can only eat them for breakfast if they're in soup.

After my late husband died, I spent almost two years eating Sapporo Ichiban Original Ramen Noodle Soup with fresh vegetables and protein for many of my meals, and drinking a lot of Sprite--as well as eating ice cream.

When I received my diagnoses, I expected they would have written: Type 2 diabetes due to Hagen Das and Sprite. CKD due to Sapporo Ichiban, which is classified by EWG as an unhealthy ultra-processed food, [that has no redeeming nutritional values.]" You might enjoy the description in the link below:

P.S. The protein shake looks interesting. I do like homemade applesauce, and I am starting to understand that I must cook enough so I have leftovers. As I write this, I know my late husband is looking down at me, and smiling. If it was at all possible, he, my mom, and both grandmothers would be sending me food packages from heaven. Alas...

nycmusic: It is fun sorting this out together, although I truly have nothing to contribute.
