It's great news riflemanz64 that all went well for your wife in the Norman parathyroid surgery center!

I did get that phone call last week from the surgeon whom I thought was only a general surgeon. But she told me "No, I'm a specialist in parathyroid surgery .... " (and in some other kind of surgery). She told me she reviewed the 2 older scans I had earlier this year (the CT and the US scans of my parathyroid glands area) plus the recently done nuclear medicine scan. I was somewhat surprised when she said that none of these 3 kinds of scans reveals which is the haywire gland! Still, she said I could have surgery by her if I wanted it OR I could continue to just wait and watch. It still seems to me that if a surgeon doesn't know from scans which is the bad gland, then it would be dangerous to have that surgeon cut open the neck to look at the 4 glands trying to figure out which is the abnormal, sick one. Now maybe in the case where scans aren't useful in revealing which gland has to be taken out, maybe the surgeon sees or detects very subtle aspects about the glands and the areas around them-- I don't know. Perhaps there's some very slight color or minuscule size difference in the bad gland compared to the healthy, normal ones-- I don't know.

Before saying, over the phone, goodbye to her, I said I'd just wait and watch and not have surgery (yet).
