I'm in agreement with the tough love comments. Your T-score is pretty bad and you've already fractured so you are more likely to fracture again and you'll likely continue to lose bone density over the years. It's just the way nature works. I've posted my story before so I'll try and be brief (but it's a long story, so...). I was diagnosed at 57 with a T-score of -2.8. Absolutely shocked as I was very active (dance class, weightlifting, hiking) and had an excellent diet. Was afraid of meds and thought I could improve on my own by increasing exercise, higher weightlifting and watching my diet more closely (I always ate all whole foods but started to track my nutrition more closely). I told my doctor that I wanted two years and I would prove to her that it could be done. In that 2 years, I went from -2.8 to -3.2. At that point, I knew I had to embrace a pharmaceutical option. I chose Forteo because I felt it was the most "natural" as a parathyroid hormone, something meant to be in the body. I had no side effects. Actually, I had one. An incredible sense of relief that I was building bone and safeguarding my skeleton. That was worth everything. I had gains the first year and plateaued the second and ultimately concluded my treatment at -2.9. Had I gone on Forteo at the onset of my diagnosis, I would be in much better shape. When I finished treatment, I decided to go on HRT to maintain my gains. I was 62 at the time. That was 8 years ago and my density has been fairly stable. Recently, my CTX shot up and my estrogen level was low which really concerns me. I'm thinking of going on Forteo once again. The worry that my bones may be diminishing again is frightening. I'd rather have the peace of mind knowing that I'm building bone and creating stability to move forward into my 70s with the strongest body I can have.

@teb thank you for your insight. I have been on HRT for 10 years now and hover between osteopenia and osteoporosis. Last fracture 4 years ago. In Australia the Forteo is a daily shot. How did you go keeping up the regime. I am a falls risk so they want me on something else as well to strengthen my bones more
