@nlcarl So glad you found this group, too. When I was first diagnosed with the PMR there seemed to be no help at all! But my rheumy said this group is a good support network, and I certainly agree. Keep posting and asking questions, too.

As others have said, PMR does not really 'go away'. It goes underground at times, but can re-surface again years later. so be patient - the road is long and full of bumps! Forgive your body if it can't function as it once did and do what you can every day!

And finally, prednisone is the devil's candy for sure! Yes, it masks the pain of PMR. It is only a mask - NOT a cure of any kind. Be aware of that. Some people have few side-effects from the pred, but many of us have multiple side-effects and reactions to the pred. I am now on six additional medications that are only necessary because I am taking prednisone! I took none of these before the PMR and pred prescription. My rheumy has added yet another, a 'prednisone sparing' medication. After two or three months of taking this I should be able to lower the dose of pred, since I have such severe side-effects.

The most important thing is to keep that daily diary, and keep your doctors up to date on your progress, particularly when you are having a flare or trying to taper the pred.

In the meantime, you have a great support group here!

I've been fighting for 3 months for help. There were days I stood in the shower and just cried. The pain is debilitating and doctors can't feel it. I am going up for neck surgery in a couple weeks because of numbness in my right hand and shoulder pain. Surgeon says I have 2 things going on. Yeah, I could have told him that! Coming home from surgery apt and Chatgpt suggests PMR? What? Back to my GP who did battery of tests. Only CPR was abnormal. Since I have surgery in a couple weeks there's no pain relief for me! Though I'm not suicidal at all, I do understand how easy one could be! I never thought I'd experience pain of my complete torso. G-d bless all of you who are suffering.
