I'd be darn sure that there was proven benefit for a statin drug for YOU. And I'd be even surer if it was a lipophilic statin like simvastatin. And if it was prescribed to me for primary prevention.

My life from age 68 onward was pretty much wrecked by 7 months on simvastatin (brand name is Zocor). I'd been trekking in the Himalayan foothills, came back to USA, and got the statin pushed on me. I asked the right questions, and received the usual obfuscations and general warnings.

That was 14 years ago, no cardiovascular problems yet. If you're told that you have FH (familial hypercholesterolemia) make darn sure that you do have it. My cardiologist had the "impression" of FH. He wrecked my incredibly good health and good fortune.

I can outline how CoQ10 fits into the picture, but unless someone knows something I don't, it's unlikely that I'll ever get better. And I'm in several statin-damaged groups. One has over 60,000 members.

Statins are NOT one size fits all, and in many cases, they're prescribed as though they couldn't damage one's health severely and permanently (as well as save some peoples' lives). StatinStories will explain a bit more as I gradually get more ino up there. For now, there are some photos.

@adverseeffects Wow! I’m on 2mg of Pitavastatin for cholesterol. It controls my cholesterol. Hope it’s not having any adverse effects on my body.
