Recovery time after Anastrozole/aromatase inhibitors

I was on tamoxifen for 8 years. After TAHBSO, I was switched to anastrazole 6 months ago. The hand pain has become so debilitating I can’t even button my shirt or hook my bra. I’m 51 and I go to the gym regularly. I finally asked my oncologist if i could stop taking the AI and she said to take a 2-week break from it and switch back to tamoxifen. It has been 5 days and the hand pain has had no improvement. (I wear a thumb splint now because of trigger finger.) My chronic neck pain, however, has improved considerably since i stopped taking AI. I don’t want to keep taking NSAIDs for the hand pain, but sometimes that’s the only thing that helps.

@chevm I do hope your hand pain improves ,as I know how debilitating and frustrating it can be. It is the unpredictability of the AIs that I find difficult.i had been taking Anastrozole for 18 months and had bad back pain and muscle pain in legs, but then out of the blue developed severe pain both hands making everyday tasks like food prep agony! It has sort of plateaued at present but I am so fearful it will worsen. Best of luck.
