@suesam, I am really glad to hear you have a great doctor. And I like that the two of you already had a plan to revisit how you were doing at three months.

Something you said reminded me of a short Mayo Clinic Cardiovascular CME podcast that I found very helpful. It’s only about 11 minutes long and is a conversation with Mayo cardiologist Dr. Stephen Kopecky about statin-associated muscle symptoms and some of the different approaches doctors can consider when someone has difficulty tolerating a statin. One of the things I appreciated about it is that the conversation isn’t simply “statin or no statin” — there can be different ways of approaching treatment.

It might even give you a few things you’d like to discuss with your doctor Monday. But I think you’ve identified the first question perfectly: is the rosuvastatin actually contributing to this pain, or is something else causing it?

@jlharsh Hi there - I just listened to that podcast and thank you so much for sending that link. It gave me much food for thought. I think it is hard to distinguish what muscle aches are really from the statin, so my doctor can hopefully shed some light on that. He said if I was having muscle pain he could switch me to something else and he wants to redo my blood to check my cholesterol at the 6th month mark. It will be interesting to see if he thinks the statin is making the pain worse or if it's just a coincidence. But I have never had lower back pain before that left me humped over where I can't stand straight. I'm going to ask him about CQ10 too. Thanks a lot. I'm so happy I found this forum. I've learned sooooooooo much already. Thank you.
