Trying to taper off prednisone when your adrenals are suppressed is a frustrating game of running in circles. You need to take less prednisone for adrenal recovery in order for your cortisol level to improve. Then you need to take more prednisone to control your inflammation levels because your cortisol level isn't adequate to regulate inflammation.

It is a bit like medical care in general when you start out with one problem and get treated. Then you have to correct the problems that the medical treatment causes. You go round and round until you wind up with the same original problem because there isn't a cure.

@dadcue this is exactly what I’m and probably many of us are doing!
It’s definitely a catch 22.
Very well put,
Thank you!

@dadcue Indeed! My PMR itself was probably triggered by surgery for the parathyroid adenoma that flew under everybody's radar for almost 30 years after the one doctor who suspected it failed to confirm his diagnosis with the test available at the time. Back then of course, detailed information wasn't shared with the patient. I am a walking bundle of medical errors. My former PCP and my therapist were both suspicious especially since I was the one who initially suspected each condition until I indicated when and how the diagnoses had been made through tissue biopsy/bloodwork/imaging depending. I have to say that my training in public health where I learned to think like an epidemiologist as opposed to applying an algorithm like doctors paid off or I would probably be dead by now.

@dadcue You nailed it. This is spot on.
