Before I retired I worked with very stressed and traumatized families.
What you are most likely experiencing is PTSD and that darn stress hormone cortisol is doing a number on you, so it is most likely the result of this experience taking a toll on your brain and body.
You can work to de-stress, meditate, whatever helps keep the brain from having to go into fight or flight mode.
Your temporary memory issues are your body's response to the stress of caregiving. There is too much to process and deal with, and it's overwhelming.
Hopefully you have good support and can take a brain break so you can sometimes get back to 'normal' that doesn't really exist, but your new normal.

@judimahoney thank you so much. I know I will have to be more diligent about taking care of my health in order to support my husband. Never had time to meditate in the past, and now I will. Thank you for reassuring me. I read many requests last night and know you help a lot of people. Thank you again -
