@kayelynn My first treatment for MAC failed in 2021. Symptoms recurred within a few months. My pulmonologist retired telling me "no follow up needed". I waited 3 years to find a new pulmonologist. I am now allergic to most antibiotics so not a good candidate for tx ( I am 81). I have developed bronchiectasis with shortness of breath and night sweats) Now I have a good pulmonologist and a terrific ID doctor - they are monitoring CT scans and have added nebulizing tx with saline and levalbuteral to Previously ignored airway clearance advice. I admit to ignoring routine medical issues for six years due to caregiving for husband who recently died from Parkinsons Disease. Now I am paying attention to nutrition, exercise and airway clearance and frightened of getting a secondary lung infection. This is a cautionary tale for you caregivers out there - you must take care of your health - find a way to do it. Long term caregiving is a risk factor for exacerbation of chronic disease in the elderly. Best wishes to all - your advice has helped me.
